Baseball Falls to Dartmouth, 13-1

BOX SCORE

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -
The Hartford baseball team took an early 1-0 lead on Tuesday afternoon in their game with Dartmouth, but could not hold on as the Big Green stormed back to take a 13-1 victory at Fiondella Field. Tyler Corsi allowed just three earned runs over 6.0 innings of work, but took the loss for Hartford, which fell for the ninth consecutive time.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Brian Hunter reached on a fielder's choice, moving to second when Ryan Lukach beat out an infield single. Mike Aldrich then laced a single back up the middle and over the outstretched glove of the Big Green second baseman, plating Hunter.

That would be it for the Hawks offensively, as they managed just four more singles off three Dartmouth pitchers the rest of the afternoon.

The Big Green took the lead in the second inning, scoring three unearned runs after a pop up which would have been the third out of the inning fell untouched on the mound in between the four Hawks infielders and the catcher. A run scored on the play. Corsi walked the next batter, then gave up a two-run double to the gap in left-center which put Dartmouth up, 3-1.

Dartmouth added three in the fourth, then broke the game wide open with five runs in the seventh inning. Ennis Coble and Brandon Parks each hit three-run home runs for the Big Green, which pounded out 15 hits in their final tuneup before playing the Ivy League Championship Series this weekend.

Hartford will return to the diamond this weekend for its final conference home series. The Hawks host first-place Stony Brook for four games over Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's doubleheader gets underway at 1:00 p.m., with Sunday's twin bill starting at noon. Tickets for both days are still available, and can be purchased by calling 860-768-HAWK.
