Nethersole Leads Hawks in Sweep of Two Saturday Matches, Three-set Wins Over La Salle and Delaware State

West Hartford, Conn. – Junior Kami Nethersole was the only Hawk to finish with double figures in each of the Hawks matches on Saturday, but it led to a sweep of the Delaware State (25-22, 25-14, 25-10) and La Salle (25-19, 25-20, 25-18) in the second day of the Hartford/Quinnipiac Invitational. The Hawks improve to 5-6 on the season and will host Quinnipiac in the final match of the weekend on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Fans who can't make it out to the game can catch all the action live on HartfordHawks.com All Access.

Nethersole finished the day with 23 total kills and hit for a combined .347 over the two matches. She opened the day hitting .333 against Delaware State with 21 kills and four errors in 24 total attacks, before hitting .360 in the nightcap with 11 kills and just two errors in 25 total attempts. She also finished the La Salle match with a double double adding 10 kills, one of four players to finish with double digit kills. With these two matches, Nethersole has now hit double figure kills in all but one of the 11 matches this season.

Despite her primary role as the Hawks starting setter, freshman Jackie Tamburri finished the day with six total kills and no errors in 11 attempts to lead the Hawks in hitting percentage (.545) through both matches. She finished Delaware State match with 32 assists and followed that with 28 against La Salle. She also led the team defensively against the Explorers with 14 digs, her seventh match of the season with a double double.

In the opening match against Delaware State, the Hawks hit a season-best .337, including a single game-high of .500 in the final set. Overall for the match, Hartford finished with 46 kills and 13 errors in 98 total attacks. In the final set alone, the Hawks completed 12 of 22 attacks, while suffering just one error.

Among the individual leaders was sophomore Lindsay Anderson who finished with a .462 average. She provided seven total kills in 13 attempts, while hitting into an error on one occasion. Senior Michelle Cordell also finished with just one error, closing out the match with a .375 hitting percentage. She finished with seven kills in 16 total attacks.

Defensively, all but one player who got into the match finished with at least one dig, led by sophomore Sareeta Nethersole who finished with 12 digs, a match-high. Sophomore walk-on Saara Carissimi started and played all three sets as the Hawks libero, finishing with eight digs, with her classmate Dionna Kirton adding seven. Tamburri and Cordell each added six for the Hawks.

In the nightcap, the Hawks hit .264 as a team, and led by as much as eight in all three sets, including a match-high of 11 in two occasions during the third and final set. As a team, the Hawks combined for 43 total kills and 15 errors in 106 total attempts. Also among the leading hitters for the Hawks were Cordell with eight and Anderson with seven.
