EMMITSBURG, Md. – The University of Hartford men's basketball team let one slip away on Tuesday evening, as Mount St. Mary's staged a second-half comeback and scored a 70-63 victory at Knott Arena. The Hawks' overall record drops to 0-2 with the setback while the Mount levels their mark to 1-1.

In the first half, the Hawks came out aggressive and attacked the boards, pulling down 12 more rebounds than their opponent (18-6) while holding the Mount to just one rebound off the offensive glass. Hartford shot well over the 50 percent mark, going 13-of-23 (56.6 percent) including 5-of-8 from downtown.

Mount St. Mary's led just twice in that period, with a 10-9 advantage with 14:07 remaining being its last until late in the second. After that, Hartford reeled off a 10-1 run behind four points from Yolonzo Moore II and six from Evan Cooper to push ahead by eight at the 10:49 mark.

Another run, this time an 8-0 rally by the Mount, knotted up the game at 19 apiece before the Hawks responded with 10 unanswered points to take their largest lead of the game at 29-19. Mount St. Mary's closed that gap to three points at the half as a late three by Rashad Whack, his second of four on the night, provided the halftime score of 35-32.

Mount St. Mary's comeback was fueled by a 14-1 run that erased a six point Hartford advantage at the 10:09 mark of the second half and put the home team ahead by seven with 8:12 remaining. During that four minute stretch, the Mount did not miss a shot, going 5-for-5 from the field with a pair of three pointers by Whack, who scored a team-best 20 points, and Shivaughn Wiggins.

The Hawks managed to close the gap to two with 1:59 left to play, but two free throws by Josh Castellanos followed by a jumper by Julian Norfleet extended the Mounts' lead to four with just 50 seconds left on the clock.

During the second half, Hartford was outrebounded by its opponents, 19-8.

Five players contributed to Hartford's offensive output on the evening, with four finishing in double figures. Nwakamma led all scorers with 21, a career-high for the sophomore forward. He also pulled down a game-best eight rebounds, including four on the offensive end.

Rounding out the Hawks' double digit scorers were Moore (15), Cooper (14) and John Peterson (11). Moore tallied his season-best number on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor and 5-of-6 shooting from the free throw line.

Hartford, which shot 52.4 percent (22-of-42) on the evening, struggled to convert at the free throw line, finishing at 60.9 percent (14-of-23). Mount St. Mary's shot 51.0 percent (25-of-49) and was 85.7 percent at the charity stripe (12-of-14).

The Hawks return home for their next three games, starting with Sacred Heart, their third-straight opponent from the Northeast Conference, on Friday, November 16. The two teams will tipoff from Chase Arena at 7:00 p.m.
