Hartford Drops Weekday Match to Albany, 6-1.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.
– Senior Abby Liu posted her fifth straight victory at No. 1 singles to pick up a point for the Hawks in a 6-1 loss at the hands of America East rival Albany on Thursday afternoon. The match was the final home contest for the Hartford women this season.

Liu won her fifth straight singles match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over the No. 1 player for the Great Danes, Kirsten Scott. With the win, Liu improves to 9-2 in singles play this Spring, all from the top spot. In her only season in a Hawks uniform, Liu has amassed a 20-4 record in singles play, including 11-3 in dual matches.

Liu, a graduate student, and senior Haley Gileau played their final match in West Hartford for the Hawks.

The Hawks played the Great Danes tough in singles play. Sophomore Katina Zampas took a total of six games at the No. 3 position before falling to Livia Gherman, 6-2, 6-4. Freshmen Jessica Galik and Christie Greenberg put forth solid efforts at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. Galik dropped her match at the five spot, 6-3, 6-2, while Greenberg fell behind, 6-1, in the first set, but fought in the second set before losing, 6-4.

The Hawks women wrap up regular season play this weekend against a pair of conference foes. Hartford travels to Stony Brook, N.Y., for a pair of Saturday contests against Stony Brook and Binghamton.
