Nethersole Hits 10 Kills as Hawks Top UMass Lowell in Four

Box Score LOWELL, Mass. – The University of Hartford volleyball team scored its second straight victory on Friday night, topping the UMass Lowell River Hawks in four sets (25-12, 25-17, 18-25, 25-22) at the Costello Athletic Center in Lowell. Hartford (8-12, 2-2 America East) was led by junior Sareeta Nethersole who finished with 10 kills.

Nethersole was the only Hartford player, and one of only two players in the match, who finished in double figures, tying Lowell's Brooke Peterson for the match-high. An outside hitter for the Hawks, Nethersole finished with a .333 hitting average with just one error in 27 total attempts. As a team, Hartford finished the match hitting .178 with 42 kills and 19 errors in 129 attacks.

Junior setter Jackie Tamburri finished with a match-high 32 assists, while she was one of four defensive leaders with 12 digs, closing out her team-leading 11th double double of the season. Freshman Corrine Horanzy and senior Dionna Kirton each finished with 14 digs to lead the team while libero Paola Llerandi finished with 11. Kirton and Horanzy finished second on the team offensively with six kills each.

The Hawks saw their best hitting of the match come in the second set when they finished with 10 kills and three errors in 25 total attempts for a .280 average. Despite dropping the third set, the Hawks finished with 12 total kills, a high for either team in the match. Defensively, the Hawks held UMass Lowell to a .068 hitting average with the River Hawks hitting 26 errors.

Hartford also finished with nine team blocks, the second most for the Hawks in 2013. Leading the teams blocking efforts was Nethersole and Lindsay Anderson who each finished with five block assists each. The River Hawks mustered just three errors total, while also hitting 11 service errors and finishing with six ball handling errors.

The Hawks continue a four-game road stretch on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Durham, N.H. for a 1 p.m. start against the New Hampshire Wildcats.
