WEST HARTFORD, Conn.—
Katina Zampas earned a victory in the top singles slot for the Hartford women's tennis team against Sacred Heart Monday in West Hartford. The match against Sacred Heart wrapped up a busy weekend for the Hawks as they also had road dates at Saint Peter's, Connecticut and Merrimack over the weekend.
The Hawks opened the weekend Friday with a 7-0 loss in Jersey City, N.J., against Saint Peter's before competing at UConn on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks then traveled to Andover, Mass., to face Merrimack, where the Hawks dropped a 7-2 result. The Hawks returned to their home court for a date against Sacred Heart, falling, 6-1, in West Hartford.
A junior from Laguna Niguel, Calif., Zampas led the Hawks throughout the weekend. The junior teamed with freshman
Colleen Beck for a doubles win at Merrimack Sunday, taking an 8-4 result in the top spot. Freshman
Hannah Goldman and sophomore
Jessica Galik accounted for the Hawks' other point at Merrimack, turning in an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
Zampas then finished off four straight days of action with a singles victory at the top spot against Sacred Heart. After dropping the first set to her Pioneer opponent, Zampas notched a 7-6 win in the second before finishing off the match with a 10-5 triumph in the tiebreak.
The Hawk women close out regular season play at home against Fairfield April 17.
