Petridis Provides Double Overtime Heroics as Hawks Prevail at Marist

Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Junior Aleko Petridis's first career goal could not have come at a more opportune time, as it lifted the visiting University of Hartford men's soccer team past Marist, 1-0, with just 5:29 left on the clock in double overtime on Tuesday evening at Tenney Stadium. Improving to 4-0-2 on the season, the Hawks are unbeaten through their first six matches for just the second time in the program's Division I history.

Led by three shots from Nick Bramall and a five-save effort from keeper Anthony Sokalski, the Red Foxes drop to 1-5-0.

With the help of Hartford's impenetrable back line consisting of Rohan Roye, Damion Lowe, Blake Jones and Jhamie Hyde, David MacKinnon, the reigning America East Rookie of the Week, picked up his fourth-straight clean sheet in as many starts, making four saves in the process. Stepping up in the first overtime period to make a pair of clutch stops, he has now gone 459 minutes without allowing a goal.

In overtime, Marist outshot Hartford, 3-1, before the Hawks knocked in the game-ending tally. Regaining possession after the Red Foxes came up empty on a corner kick with 5:55 to go, senior Anthony Santaga generated the offense that lit up the scoreboard to earn his first assist of the season.

Santaga's bullet was blocked by a Marist defender, but the play was not broken as Petridis tracked down the rebound and blasted a hard shot towards the left corner, past the hands of an outstretched Sokalski in the 106th minute of action.

The late scoring is not a fluke for the Hawks as each of their four victories have featured the game-winning tally delivered in the 70th minute or later.

Offensive action was sparse through the opening period as both squads combined for nine shots with Hartford and Marist each recording one on goal. The Hawks claimed the first scoring attempt of the match with 16:50 left in the opening stanza, a play that featured Omar Tall challenging Sokalski for the first time.

Ramping up the pressure in the second half and outshooting its opponents, 6-4, during that stretch, David Bernhardsson came close to providing his team with the late advantage. With 17:58 remaining, he saw his shot hit the post. Just over eight minutes later, the Hawk senior would strike again, this time sending a shot on target in place for Sokalski to earn the save and prevent the scoreless tie from being broken.

The Hawks return to the Nutmeg State and will stay within the Connecticut state borders for their next six games, starting with a Friday night tilt against the Harvard Crimson. First kick from Al-Marzook Field is slated for 7 p.m.
