PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Hartford women's tennis team dropped a weekend matchup against the Providence Friars 7-0. The Hawks were led by freshmen Katherine Long and Skylar Schaar who teamed up in the No.1 doubles spot for the fifth time giving the duo their third win of the season.
The pair defeated Providence's Alana Prinos and Emma Burgess, 8-6, to give the Hawks their only winning match of the game. In singles play, the Hawks middle three, Long, Schaar and Meredith Heitland led the way. Playing in the second singles position, Long fell by scored of 6-4, 6-3 to the Friars Jen DeLuca. Schaar forced a tie breaker before dropping the third singles match by scored of 7-5, 7-6 (3), while Heitland fell in the fourth singles position by scores of 7-5, 6-3.
The Hawks will take a short break from dual meet action to participate in the Siena Double Invitational this coming weekend in Loudonville, N.Y. The single day event is scheduled for October 4.
