SET-BY-SET BREAKDOWN:
SET ONE:
The Hawks and Orange exchanged points to start the match as the two squads were tied at 8-all early on. Syracuse started to heat up though, as it went on to score six of the next points to push ahead, 16-10. Three-straight points on a Katy Henchy kill, a service ace from Paulina Modestow, and another Henchy kill would pull the Hawks within three points at 17-14, but it wouldn't be enough to muster up a comeback. Syracuse closed out the match by putting eight of the next nine points on the scoreboard to come away with the opening-set victory. In 20 total attacks, the Orange did not commit an error as they hit .650 over that set. Rachel Moll led all Hawk hitters with three kills while rookie Shay Worley added a service ace in the set.
SET TWO:
In the evening's second set, the Orange jumped out to an 8-2 lead and never looked back. Pushing its advantage into double digits at 13-3, Hartford pulled within six at 20-14, but wouldn't come any closer. Three of Modestow's team-high seven kills came in the second set.
SET THREE:
Hartford held an early 3-2 advantage in set three, but the Orange hit .348 during that stretch and used a 4-0 rally to go up, 6-3. Six of the next eight points went in favor of Syracuse as the visiting squad built a 12-5 cushion heading into the final stretch of the set. Modestow paced Hartford with a pair of kills.
