THE LEAD:Bianca Ross hit her first career home run, a two-run shot in the fifth, but Longwood's hot bats lifted the home squad to a 10-2 victory over the Hartford softball team on Friday.

Kaylynn Batten went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in the win for the Lancers. Taylor Hedrick drove in a pair of runs, while Batten, Glenn Walters, Krista Kelly and Justina Augustine each scored two runs.

Elizabeth McCarthy tossed six strong innings for Longwood, striking out eight and allowing just three hits in the victory. Ross was carded with the loss in the circle for the Hawks.
Alex Saharek and
Jenice Aloyo each added hits for the Hawks.
HOW THEY SCORED:• Longwood got three runs on two hits and two walks in the bottom of the first.
• The Lancers tacked on a run with a solo home run from Batten in the bottom of the third.
• A pair of RBI singles in the bottom of the fourth made it a 6-0 lead.
• Ross' two-run homer in the top of the fifth cut it to 6-2, as
Kristen DeCiantis preceded Ross by being hit with a pitch.
• The Lancers added two on an RBI single and an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.
• Longwood finished off the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
