THE LEAD:

Bianca Ross pitched a gem in game two to help the Hartford softball team to a doubleheader split with Quinnipiac on Wednesday. Hawks pitching combined to allow just 11 hits on the day, while Jenice Aloyo and Danielle DeMarco each had two hits.

GAME 1: QUINNIPIAC 3, HARTFORD 0
Casey Herzog allowed just two hits and one walk to hold the Hartford softball team's offense in check en route to a 3-0 victory in game one. Herzog outdueled Hawks starter Lexi Wilkerson, who surrendered just five hits in a complete game for Hartford.

Two of the Bobcats' three runs came on sacrifice flies, with Abby Johnson supplying two of the team's three RBI. Aloyo and DeMarco delivered the two hits for the Hawks.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 1:
• Both pitchers started strong, putting up zeroes in the first two innings.
• Quinnipiac struck first with a two-out rally in the top of the third, taking a 1-0 lead on an Abby Johnson single.
• The Bobcats tacked on another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Emily Czaja.
• Quinnipiac used another sac fly in the top of the fifth, this one resulting in a double play with Jenice Aloyo throwing out a runner at third, to push the lead to 3-0.

GAME 2: HARTFORD 3, QUINNIPIAC 1
Ross allowed six hits and struck out seven, with her only run allowed being unearned, to lift the Hawks to the win in game two. Peyton Fisher delivered a two-run double for the Hawks as six different Hartford players carded hits. Quinnipiac's Sydney Robey picked up the tough-luck loss, allowing three unearned runs in her six innings of work.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 2:
• Hartford struck first with three runs in the bottom of the second, the first two on a two-run double just inside the third-base bag by Fisher that plated DeMarco and Ross.
Kylie Dazalla tacked on another run by ripping a single to center to score Fisher for a 3-0 advantage.
• From there, the pitchers took over, putting zero after zero on the scoreboard.
• Quinnipiac added an unearned run on an RBI groundout in the seventh for the final tally.

UP NEXT:
The Hawks will be off until Saturday, April 9, when they hit the road to take on Stony Brook for a conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.
