THE LEAD:
Jane Sallen and Maddy Neales combined for a two-hitter as Stony Brook took the series opener, 5-0, from the Hartford softball team on Friday afternoon.

Hartford got base hits from
Danielle DeMarco and
Bianca Ross in a losing effort, while
Kylie Dazalla drew three walks and
Elizabeth Newkirk drew two.

Alexandra Pisciotta went 2-for-4 with three runs scored for the Seawolves, while Irene Rivera, Chelsea Evans and Lexie Shue each delivered a pair of hits in the victory.
HOW THEY SCORED:
• Stony Brook struck first with a run in the bottom of the first, coming on an RBI single by Rivera.
• Diane Caruso added an RBI single to left in the third to push the lead to 2-0.
• Hartford rallied in the top of the third, loading the bases on a hit, a hit batter and a walk, but were unable to push a run across.
• Kellie Reynolds made it a 3-0 advantage in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI base knock to center field.
• Shue tacked on two more runs with a double to right field in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 5-0 lead.

The Hawks and Stony Brook will continue their series with a Sunday doubleheader due to inclement weather in the forecast for Saturday. First pitch on Sunday is slated for noon.
