THE LEAD:
The No. 4 Maryland Terrapins scored two goals early in the first half and closed out the game with another flurry, securing a 5-0 victory against the Hartford Hawks in College Park, Md., on Monday night. Sophomore Gordon Wild led the Terps with a pair of goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Terrapins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute on a goal by sophomore Gordon Wild. Diego Silva had the assist on a long serve and Wild scored from 8 yards out.
- Just four minutes later sophomore Sebastian Elney helped give Maryland a 2-0 lead. Chris Odoi-Alsem lofted a high cross to the far post, Eryk Williamson headed it back across the mouth of the goal and Elney headed it past Hartford goalie David MacKinnon.
- The Hawks held tough to end the first half, but Maryland quickly added to its total after halftime. Wild netted his second goal in the 53rd minute, cleaning up a loose ball in a scrum in front of the net.
- Maryland struck again in the 68th minute when George Campbell was fouled in the box while battling for possession with Kelechi Akujobi. Campbell converted the penalty kick, beating MacKinnon low to his left.
- The Terps tacked on another goal in the game's closing minutes on a cross from D.J. Reeves to Jorge Calix. It was the first career goal allowed by Hartford freshman keeper Jimmy Slayton, who came on in place of MacKinnon in the 72nd minute.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Maryland finished with a 17-2 shot advantage and had 12 corner kicks to the Hawks' one.
- MacKinnon logged a season-high five saves.
- Wild finished with a game-high five shots. Senior Jeff Tryon and sophomore Andri Jonasson accounted for Hartford's two attempts.

NEWS &NOTES:
- Freshman Fredrik Ekman earned his first career start for the Hawks.
- Slayton and fellow freshmen Christian Deaconson and Christoph Am Ende made their Hartford debuts.
- Junior Jake Slomski and sophomore Michael Dunn also saw the pitch for the first time this season for the Hawks.
- Maryland improved to 2-0 all-time against Hartford.

UP NEXT:
After starting the season on a two-game road trip at Holy Cross and Maryland, the Hawks head home to the friendly confines of Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium to host Monmouth on Thursday, Sept. 1. Monmouth owns a 0-1-1 record this season, with an impressive draw against No. 15 Denver in the opener. They lost, 3-0, at home to UMass Lowell on Sunday.
