THE LEAD:
The University of Hartford men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 double-overtime decision to Binghamton on Wednesday night. After a back and forth opening 105 minutes, Binghamton's Jack Muller capitalized on a fast-break opportunity in the second overtime period, giving the Bearcats the 1-0 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Bearcats opened the match on their front foot, sending four shots in the first eight minute. The Hawks defense held tough, keeping Binghamton on the board early.
- Hartford's best opportunity in the opening half came in the 10th minute when Rasmus Karlsson sent a shot from just outside of the box that was blocked by a Bearcats defender. Alexis Triadis quickly sent the rebound at the net, but Binghamton keeper Chris Shutler came up with the save. Â
- The Bearcats had three corner kick attempts in the 62nd minute but came up empty-handed following a strong Hartford defensive stand that was capped off by a big Jimmy Slayton save. Â Â
- Kelechi Akujobi had a grade-a opportunity in the 68th minute when he sent a missile from 20 yards out, but the diving Bearcat Keeper, Alejandro Cubillo, kept the attempt out of the net. Â Â
- In the 78th minute, Binghamton's Noah Luescher sent a free-position kick to the upper half that the jumping Slayton was able to punch and keep the ball out of the net.
- Xhane Reid had the Hawks best opportunity in overtime, as he sent a shot off a fast break that sailed just high of the crossbar. Â
- Off a fast break transition in the second overtime period, Muller send a shot from just left of the goal, past the diving Slayton, giving the Bearcats the 1-0 decision. Â Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS & NOTES:
- Binghamton outshot the Hawks (14-8) and tallied more corner kicks (7-3).
- Slayton finished with four saves, raising his season total to 53.

The Hawks will travel to Stony Brook on Sunday to continue America East play in a 4 p.m. tilt. Hartford concludes its two-game roundtrip as it travels to UAlbany on Friday, Oct. 20, for a 7 p.m. kickoff.  Â
