THE LEAD:
The University of Hartford men's soccer team opened its road schedule with a 1-1 double-overtime draw against Saint Joseph's on Tuesday Night. Freshman
Rasmus Karlsson netted the equalizer in the 28th minute for his first career goal. Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hawks came out swinging in the first five minutes, taking a pair of corner kicks and a missile that went wide of the net from Xahne Reid.
- Saint Joseph's Matt Crawford took advantage of a foul in the 10th minute, scoring on a penalty kick to make it 1-0.
- The Hawks went on the offensive in the 28th minute. Off a corner kick from Reid, senior Mike Berry got a quality look at the net, just hitting the post. Karlsson quickly responded, scoring a header off a pass from Aitor Elena to net his first career goal just seconds later.
- Sophomore keeper Jimmy Slayton came up big in the second half, recording three saves in the span of eight minutes. Â
- Both teams had several chances down the stretch to break the tie, including a shot from senior Andre Morrison in the closing minute of double overtime that was saved by Saint Joseph's keeper Trevor Nicol.  Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS & NOTES:
- Saint Joseph's finished with the advantage in shots (10-6), but Hartford held the advantage in corner kicks (6-4).
- Slayton finished with four saves.
- Karlsson became the second Hawk is as many games to net his first career goal, as Gael Kisombe found the back of the net in the opener.Â

The Hawks will return home next Saturday, Sept. 2, for a 7 p.m. first kick against Marist. The Hawks will be celebrating youth soccer in Connecticut, as any child under 12 sporting a youth soccer jersey will receive $3 admission. Â
