WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford men's lacrosse team's roster will feature 19 new faces in 2019. The new members joined 18 returning student-athletes during the Hawks' fall season, and will look to make an immediate impact as Hartford begins the quest for the program's third America East Championship next week.
"We are very excited about this next generation of Hawks," said head coach
Ryan Martin. "This group has acclimated extremely well this fall and have performed at a high level both on the field and in the classroom. They have enhanced our overall athleticism and we anticipate several of them making an impact on the field for us this spring."
Martin, who enters his third season at the helm of the Hawks, has created depth in nearly every position for the upcoming season with the addition of four attackmen, nine midfielders, three defenders and three goalies.
Hartford is slated to play 15 regular-season games, including eight on Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium, in 2019. The campaign kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 16, with a home game against St. John's.

MALCOLM BELL | DEFENDER | 6-2 | BALDWIN, N.Y.
Malcolm Bell comes to Hartford after playing three seasons of lacrosse at Baldwin High School. A 6-foot-2 defender, he was tabbed All-County Honorable Mention at the conclusion of his career. In addition to lacrosse, Bell also played one year of football and three years of soccer at Baldwin.
ANDREW BONIFACE | 5-8 | MIDFIELDER | GATES MILLS, OHIO
A 5-foot-8 midfielder,
Andrew Boniface comes to Hartford after a successful four-year career at Western Reserve Academy. As a senior captain in 2018, he recorded 34 goals and 40 assists for 74 points, earning US Lacrosse All-American status. Boniface's final season was also capped off by earning All-MSCLA Second Team and All-League Honorable Mention recognition for the second-straight year.
JOSEPH BRETZ | 6-2 | DEFENDER | JUPITER, FLA.
A US Lacrosse All-American in 2018,
Joseph Bretz was a four-year member of the lacrosse team at Jupiter High School. A 6-foot-2 defender, he forced 35 turnovers and collected 74 ground balls in a senior year that saw Jupiter go 21-2 en route to winning the 2018 FHSAA State Championship. Twice named the Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018, Bretz was also a two-time All-County First Team member.
CHRIS CAMPBELL | 6-0 | DEFENDER | SHREWSBURY, MASS.
Chris Campbell, a 6-foot-0 defender, was a two-time US All-American at Shrewsbury High School. Leading the Colonials to the league title in 2017, he compiled 12 goals, 12 assists, 32 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers as a senior. In addition to playing four years of lacrosse at Shrewsbury, Campbell was also a four-year member of the football team.
LOGAN DEROS | 5-5 | GOALIE | WATERTOWN, CONN.
Logan Deros was a multi-sport athlete at Watertown High School, where he played four years of lacrosse and was a four-year member of the swimming team. A 5-foot-5 goalie, he averaged 10 saves per game and compiled a .552 save percentage as a senior, earning All-League honors. In addition, Deros helped lead Watertown to back-to-back Eastern Connecticut Conference Championships in 2016 and 2017.
BEN GARCIA | 6-2 | MIDFIELDER | SPRINGFIELD, PA.
Ben Garcia was a four-year member of the lacrosse team at Springfield-Delco High School, where he led the team to a PIAA State Championship and District 1 title in 2017. Capping off his career by receiving All-Delco honors in his final two seasons, the 6-foot-2 midfielder scored 21 goals and added 11 assists as a senior to earn All-Central League distinction. Garcia also played three seasons of high school basketball.
JOHN HENNESSY | 5-11 | MIDFIELDER | JOHNS CREEK, GA.
John Hennessy, a 5-foot-11 midfielder, comes to Hartford from Centennial High School, where he was a four-year member of the lacrosse team. His career was highlighted by an 80-point campaign in 2016, which was capped off by Second Team All-State honors.
HUNTER KRAUSS | 5-8 | ATTACK | EMMAUS, PA.
A 5-foot-8 attackman,
Hunter Krauss compiled 250 career points — including 100 career goals — as a member of the lacrosse team at Emmaus High School. He was named First Team All-Conference and was a
Morning Call All-Area Honorable Mention selection after scoring 40 goals and dishing out 19 assists during his senior season.
CHRIS LADYGA | 6-2 | MIDFIELDER | NORWICH, CONN.
Chris Ladyga comes to Hartford from Norwich Free Academy, where he played four years of lacrosse. A 6-foot-2 midfielder, he posted a .750 faceoff winning percentage as a senior, while as a junior, he scored 22 goals and collected 102 ground balls, which earned him ECC Division I First Team honors.
ZAK LANOUE | 5-10 | MIDFIELDER | DURHAM, N.H.
A 5-foot-10 midfielder,
Zak Lanoue led New Hampton School to back-to-back Lakes Region Titles in 2017 and 2018. As a senior captain in 2018, he earned Lakes Region All-Star accolades after scoring six goals and handing out eight assists.
CAM LOGAN | 6-5 | GOALIE | NORTH CANTON, OHIO
A two-sport athlete,
Cam Logan played four years of both lacrosse and football at Hoover High School. As a 6-foot-5 goalie, he recorded 205 saves as a senior to earn US Lacrosse All-American and Second Team All-State distinction. Logan finished his impressive career with 525 saves while posting a .560 save percentage between the pipes.
CARSON MASCHECK | 6-0 | MIDFIELDER | SOUTH GLASTONBURY, CONN.
Carson Mascheck is a product of Glastonbury High School, where he was a four-year member of both the lacrosse and football teams. He led the Tomahawks to the semifinals of the Connecticut State Championships in 2016 and 2017, and was a three-time All-Conference selection in both sports during his career.
BRAEDEN McKERCHER | 5-9 | ATTACK | LAKE MARY, FLA.
A 5-foot-9 attackman,
Braeden McKercher compiled 215 career points in three seasons at Lake Mary High School. A US Lacrosse All-American, he also earned Player of the Year honors from both the Seminole County Athletic Conference and
Orlando Sentinel after scoring 42 goals and assisting on 47 others as a senior in 2018. During his career, McKercher led the Rams to back-to-back District Championships in 2017 and 2018.
KYLE O'MALLEY | 6-1 | MIDFIELDER | MAHWAH, N.J.
Kyle O'Malley attended Mahwah High School, where he was a four-year member of both the lacrosse and basketball teams. A 6-foot-1 midfielder, he collected 74 ground balls and added seven goals as a senior in 2018, receiving Third Team All-Jacobsen and Third Team All-Bergen County honors that season.
JIM PARRY | 5-10 | MIDFIELDER | HILLSBOROUGH, N.J.
A 5-foot-10 faceoff specialist,
Jim Parry comes to Hartford after a four-year career at Rutgers Preparatory School, where he was named to the All-Prep First Team as a senior in 2018. That season, he posted a .720 winning percentage inside the faceoff circle, coming away with 65 ground balls. Parry also spent two seasons on both the cross country and wrestling teams at Rutgers Preparatory School.
ANDREW PIRKO | 6-2 | MIDFIELDER | SOUTH RIDING, VA.
Andrew Pirko was a two-sport athlete at Freedom High School, playing four years of lacrosse and three seasons of football. As a senior in 2018, the 6-foot-2 midfielder racked up 70 points on 47 goals and 23 assists. Pirko capped off his career by earning Second Team All-VHSL State distinction in his final two seasons.
JOSEPH PRIKHODKO | 5-11 | GOALIE | EDMONDS, WASH.
Joseph Prikhodko was a 5-foot-11 goalie for the lacrosse team at Kamiak High School. Earning All-State honors in each of his four years and WesCo All-Conference First Team distinction in his final two, he led the team to a 13-2 overall record in 2018 after recording a 5.0 goals-against average and a .688 save percentage. Prikhodko was also a two-year member of the football team at Kamiak.
TJ SUMMERS | 6-3 | ATTACK | SAN DIEGO, CALIF.
A 6-foot-3 attackman, TJ Summers played four years of varsity lacrosse at Westview High School, where he led the Wolverines to the CIF Open Division quarterfinals as a senior in 2018. Recording 111 points on 53 goals and 58 assists, he capped off his career by earning US Lacrosse All-American and US Academic All-American honors. Summers also received All-Palomar League,
San Diego Union Tribune All-Academic Team and Westview Offensive MVP honors twice during his career.
TY THOMPSON | 6-6 | ATTACK | NEPEAN, ONTARIO
Ty Thompson transfers to Hartford after an impressive two-year career at Lycoming College, where he recorded 83 goals in 27 career starts. Dishing out a league-best 37 assists — the sixth-most in a single season at Lycoming — the 6-foot-6 attackman was named to the All-MAC Commonwealth Second Team as a sophomore in 2018. Prior to attending Lycoming, Thompson played four years of lacrosse at Mother Teresa High School, where he was also a member of the basketball, football and soccer teams.
