Jenkins' Hat Trick Leads Hawks Past Siena, 3-0

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Sophomore forward Imani Jenkins exploded for three goals on Sunday afternoon to propel the Hartford women's soccer team to a commanding, 3-0 victory against the visiting Siena Saints on Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.

Going undefeated in their past four matches with a 3-0-1 mark, the Hawks conclude their non-conference slate with a 5-1-1 record. The Saints, who have dropped each of their past five contests, fall to 2-5-0 on the season.

Jenkins, the reigning America East Rookie of the Week, struck early in the match to give the Hawks an early edge less than five minutes in. Junior Ishani Sharma initiated the offense, forcing a Siena turnover near midfield and feeding a streaking Jenkins with a downfield pass. After beating two defenders and drawing the Saints' goalkeeper out of position, Jenkins put the Hawks on the board at the 4:32 mark with a low shot to the near post.

With Hartford taking the 1-0 edge into the break, Jenkins added two more insurance in the second half to provide a comfortable three-goal cushion. Her second goal came in similar fashion, this time with sophomore Christina Stone intercepting a pass near midfield. Finding Jenkins on the breakaway, Jenkins fired a low shot to the left post to double the lead to 2-0 in the 67th minute.

Jenkins put the icing on the cake and secured her first career hat trick in the 79th minute. Using a feed from junior defender Doireann Fahey, the sophomore dodged a Siena defender, and chipped a shot over Saints keeper Brooke Boermeester to put the Hawks out in front by three and seal the win.
