BALTIMORE — The Hartford women's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to take down UMBC, 2-0, in road America East action Sunday. Sophomore
Jordyn Ferraro and graduate student
Saige Bingman found the back of the net to extend the Hawks' unbeaten streak to six matches.
HARTFORD 2, UMBC 0
The Hawks held a 10-3 advantage in shots in the second half, but both teams were unable to find the back of the net as the match was scoreless at the break. Clamping down defensively to hold UMBC to just one shot attempt over the second stanza, the Hawks' offense went off for two goals over the game's final 25 minutes.
Just seconds after seeing her header from point-blank range get turned away by Morgan McGruder, Ferraro got her head on another ball on the ensuing set piece to give Hartford the advantage in the 65th minute.
Chloe Layne received the assist on the play, as her service from the far side found Ferraro, who sent home her first career goal from eight yards out.
With less than four minutes remaining, sophomore
Imani Jenkins connected with Bingman to tack on an insurance tally for the Hawks. After Hartford regained possession at midfield, Jenkins flicked a quick pass into the 18-yard box for Bingman, who one-touched a shot off her left foot into the center of the net.
