DOVER, Del. - The Hartford volleyball team continues its 2022 campaign this weekend at the Delaware State Invitational, hosted by Delaware State. Being held at Memorial Hall in Dover, Del., the Hawks begin the three-game invitational against the host Hornets on Friday, September 2, at 3 p.m, before taking on in-state foes Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. Hartford wraps up play on Saturday, September 3, taking on Delaware State at 4 p.m..

HARTFORD QUICK HITS
- The Hawks opened up the 2022 season last weekend with three matches at the Holly Young Invitational
- Hartford dropped the opening contest on Friday against St. Francis Brooklyn, before falling to Merrimack and hosts UNH on Saturday
- Senior outside hitter Greta de Gasper was named to the All-Tournament Team after tallying 21 kills, three service aces, 32 digs and one block across the three matches
- She leads the team in digs while ranking second in kills
- Junior outside hitter Uzezi Ijoma paced the Hawks' offense, posting a team-high 23 kills on the weekend
- Freshman outside hitter Lindzi Thomas had a stellar debut weekend, collecting 16 kills and three service aces
- In addition to Thomas, Isabella Labrada, Sydney Luchs, Kylee Connally, Kionah Thomas, Fabienne Rutten and Juliana Robinshaw each made their first appearance in a Hartford uniform this past weekend
SCOUTING DELAWARE STATE
- The host Hornets, who saw their midweek matchup against Manhattan be cancelled, began their season with a 1-2 record at the DoubleTree-Youngstown State Invitational last weekend
- Delaware State dropped their opening two matches against Valparaiso and Youngstown State, before defeating Idaho in the final match of the tournament
- Karen Cordero paced the team's offense, recording 45.5 points, 40 kills and four service aces
- Sydney Lewis trailed closely behind, racking up a team-high seven aces and 41 kills
- Lewis was also a threat at the net, tallying 19 blocks across the three matches
- Delaware State is coming off a a 2021 season that saw them take home a share of the MEAC regular season title and advance to the MEAC Championship game, falling to Howard
- The Hornets were picked to finish second in the MEAC Preseason Coaches' Poll
SCOUTING LOYOLA
- Loyola enters the weekend with a 2-2 record, most recently defeating Coppin State, 3-1, on Tuesday
- Lauren Link paced the Greyhounds, recording 22 kills while Kacy Sekunda tallied 51 assists
- Link leads the Loyola offense with 85 points and 80 kills, while Seukunda has been the primary setter, recording 181 assists this season
- Katie Forsythe, who was named the Patriot League's Preseason Libero of the Year, has been a defense force for the Greyhounds in the early part of the season, recording a team high 82 digs
- Last season, Loyola posted a 17-11 record, falling in the opening round of the Patriot League Championships
- The Greyhounds were selected to finish fifth in the Patriot League Preseason Coaches' Poll
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
- Quinnipiac boasts a 0-2 record on the young season, dropping matches to Stony Brook and Fordham last weekend
- The Bobcats fell in straight sets to the Seawolves before battling to a 3-2 defeat against the Rams
- Ginerva Giovagnoni paced Quinnipiac on the weekend, recording 31 kills
- Damla Gunes is the Bobcat's main setter, leading the team with 64 assists, while Faavae Kimsel Moe anchors the defense, recording 30 digs on the young season
- Quinnipiac is coming off a 2021 campaign that saw them finish 11-18 overall and make an appearance in the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament
- The Bobcats are led by graduate student middle blocker Nicole Legg, who received Preseason All-MAAC team accolades after posting 99 blocks and a conference-best .398 attacking percentage last season
