WSOC spoils Homecoming, Senior Day

BEVERLY, Mass. – In a battle of regionally ranked teams, the #24 University of Hartford women's soccer team exhorted their dominance in spoiling Homecoming and Senior Day with the 3-0 victory over Endicott Saturday at Hempstead Stadium.

Hartford came into the game ranked second and Endicott third in the latest United Soccer Coaches regional poll.

It didn't take long for the Hawks to get on the board as freshman Kathleen Brush found the back of the net in the tenth minute as senior Imani Jenkins and graduate Ishani Sharma were credited with assists. That would be the only marker in the first half.

However, it didn't take long in the second half for Hartford to double its advantage as Jenkins scored with the double assist going to senior Christina Stone and Sharma. Sophomore Rebecca Opdenbrouw capped the scoring with a goal in the 72nd minute.

INSIDE THE BOX & NOTES
  • Jenkins and Brush are the top two goal scorers in the CCC with Jenkins leading the way with 17 goals and Brush contributing 11 goals. They are the only two players with double-digit goals in the conference.
  • Brush has scored in six straight games and seven of the last eight.
  • Stone, who leads NCAA Division III in assists, has recorded an assist in seven straight contests.
  • Sharma returned to the lineup after a one-game absence and contributed her third two-assist match of the season.
  • Sophomore Sejal Johnson secured her second clean sheet of the year with five saves.

COACHES COMMENTS
"It was a great win against a very good conference opponent," said Hartford Head Women's Soccer Coach John Natale. "(With) three goals and a couple of missed opportunities, I thought we created a lot of good chances. But, our execution needs to be a little better in the final third. Defensively, we kept a clean sheet against a very aggressive team. This game is a great gauge for us to see where we will align in the conference in the coming future."

WHAT'S NEXT
Hartford (10-2 overall, 6-0 CCC opponents) travels to CCC-foe Wentworth 7 p.m. Wednesday.
