PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The University of Hartford men's golf team is currently sixth after the first day of the Big Sky Conference golf tournament being held at the Talking Stick Golf Club.

Senior Manuel Romero and junior Conor Byrne are tied for 17th place with a five-over 75 on day one. They will enter the second day 11 strokes off the lead as Casey Leebrink of Sacramento State leads with a six-under 64.

Romero was solid on the front nine with two birdies and six rounds of par to finish just one over. He shot par on five holes on the back nine and had two bogeys to card a four-over on the back nine.

Byrne carded a consistent round with 13 holes of par and just five bogeys, two bogeys on the front nine and three on the back nine.

Junior Michael Amari carded a seven-over 77 on the opening day to enter the clubhouse tied for 25th place. He scored a four-over with his lone birdie of the day, four rounds of par, and three bogeys. Amari was more consistent on the back nine with six holes of par and three bogeys.
 
It was just one hole that kept sophomore Kyle St. Pierre from turning in a better day. He had two birdies, five holes with a par, and a bogey, but it was a five-over 9 on the third hole that prevented St. Pierre from being one-under on the front nine. He had three par holes with six bogeys to card a six-over on the back nine.

The final Hartford golfer, Turner Wegener, carded an eight-over on the front nine and a six-over on the back nine to shoot a 15-over for the opening round.

Hartford will begin Tuesday's second round 30 strokes behind round one leader Sacramento State.
