BLOOMFIELD, Conn. - The University of Hartford men's golf team opened the season by winning the two-day Hartford Hawks Invitational that concluded Tuesday at Tumble Brook Country Club.

Hartford finished four-over par, six strokes ahead of second place Fordham. Bentley finished third (+15), followed by Gordon (+58), and American International College (+59).

Junior
Austin Gambel finished second overall, four strokes over the leader, with a one-under. He carded three birdies on holes seven, eight, and 16.

Senior
Conor Byrne and graduate Manny Romero tied for third at even par 144.

With two birdies on the 13th and last holes, junior
Bryce Zimmerman finished in sixth place, scoring a one-over 145.

DAY ONE RECAP
The Hartford Hawks finished the first day of the Hartford Hawks Invitational leading a field of five teams, playing on the team's home course, Tumble Brook Country Club.

After the first 18 holes, Fordham is second with six shots behind, followed by Bentley with a score of 15, then fellow Commonwealth Coast Conference member Gordon (+58), and lastly AIC (+59).

The Hawks displayed remarkable precision as a cohesive unit, carding a three-over-par score after the initial 18 holes.

Senior Mike Amari and junior
Austin Gambel finished the round tied for second with a two-over 70. Amari was steady on the day, with birdies on holes four, eight, and 14, with just one bogey for the round.
