HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford women's cross country team competed in the 1st Annual University of Hartford Invitational on Saturday at Keney Park racing to a sixth place finish as a team.
Rapid Recap:
- The Hawks were led by freshman Ella Stephenson (Ledyard, Conn.) who placed in 14th overall for the 3k at a time of 12:25.9.
- Graduate student Jacqueline Lage (Hebron, Conn.) was next in 26th place at a time of 12:56.4. Sophomore Amelia King (Scranton, Pa.) followed in 38th place at a time of 13:11.2.
- Sophomore Bevin Montgomery-Gehrt (Leverett, Mass.) and junior Elizabeth White (Nashua, N.H.) rounded out the scorers in 36th and 48th place at times of 13:23.7 and 13:35.6.
- The Hawks ended the event in sixth place with a team score of 137.
- Caitlin Burmester of Bentley University won the event at a time of 10:59.1. Bentley University also won the event as a team with a score of 29.

"It was exciting being able to race in Keney Park", said sophomore
Amelia King (Scranton, Pa.). "We went out as a team and did our best. Obviously the first cross country race is going to be a shock to the legs, so it was getting used to that feeling, but I thought we did really good. It was so nice to be at home for the event, my family came down and it was so nice to see all the other teammates around on the course. It kept me going through the race for sure."

The Hawks will have a two week break before racing in the Purple Valley Classic at Williams College on September 21st.
