Hawks Can't Complete Comeback Against Keene State

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Hartford women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference match up on Wednesday night falling to Keene State by a 13-10 final score. 

Rapid Recap:

  • The Owls jumped ahead 2-0 in the first three minutes as Tess Brown scored and assisted on another. Sophomore Madison Olmstead (Wolcott, Conn.) answered getting a goal back as the Hawks trailed by one with 11:22 to play in the quarter. Brown would score again for Keene to get their third goal of the day, but the Hawks responded getting two goals back in the remaining time in the quarter highlighted by a final second strike by sophomore Laurel McIntosh (West Kingston, R.I.) as the score was even headed into the second. 
  • The teams traded goals in the opening three minutes with Olmstead getting the hat trick to even the score at 4-4 with 12:49 to play in the half. The Owls would take control next scoring four-consecutive times to get a 8-4 advantage. Sophomore Talei Ricketson (Centennial, Colo.) stopped the run with two goals in a row by herself as the Owls led 8-6 headed into the break. 
  • The third kicked off with Keene State again pushing the lead to four goals with the first two strikes of the second half. McIntosh scored on an assist by junior Sara Costa (Shrub Oak, N.Y.). The Owls would get the final two goals of the quarter and lead 12-7 headed into the final quarter. 
  • The fourth quarter was highlighted by defense as no goals were scored in the first 12 minutes. McIntosh would pick up the hat-trick with 2:58 to play in the fourth. Keene would get one back to lead 13-8. Hartford scored twice late, but they would not complete the comeback losing 13-10. 
Inside The Numbers:
  • Defensively junior Shelby Frashure (Pasadena, Md.) led the way with five caused turnovers to go with three ground balls. Junior Samantha Ciaglo (Colchester, Conn.) added three causes and three grounders. 
  • Offensively McIntosh scored four times in the loss, while Olmstead added a hat trick. 
  • Between the pipes sophomore Mandi Rivard (Vernon, Conn.) stopped five shots in the loss. 
  • Tess Brown led the Owls with five goals and two helpers in the win. 
Up Next:
The Hawks will head to Georgia to have two games starting on Monday against Oglethrope University at 6:00 PM.
