ATLANTA, Ga. - The Hawks women's lacrosse team erased a 6-2 deficit to comeback and win 10-9 on Monday night defeating Oglethorpe University in the first game of the Georgia trip.
Rapid Recap:
- The Stormy Petrels jumped ahead 3-0 over the first five minutes. Senior Meghan Smith (Orange, Conn.) got the Hawks on the board with 7:06 to play in the first quarter on an assist by sophomore Talei Ricketson (Centennial, Colo.). Oglethorpe answered quickly to take the three score lead again, but Ricketson responded with a free position strike as the Hawks trailed 4-2 after one quarter.
- The Stormy Petrels once again dominated the opening five minutes of the quarter getting two more goals. Sophomore Madison Olmstead (Wolcott, Conn.) kept the Hawks in it with a free position goal of her own. Oglethorpe would get another answer to land a 7-3 lead, but Smith would make history scoring her second of the game to get her 100th point in her career on a feed by Olmstead to shift the momentum. Sophomore Laurel McIntosh (West Kingston, R.I.) would end the first half scoring with a goal of her own as the Hawks trailed by two into the break.
- Oglethorpe stayed in control of the opening minutes of the quarters getting an 8th goal of the game to push the lead to three. McIntosh would respond with the final two scores of the period to cut the deficit to a single goal with 15 minutes to play. Sophomore Mandi Rivard (Vernon, Conn.) would come up huge for the Hawks making three saves, while the defense held strong during two extra man opportunities.
- Olmstead finished home an equalizer with 12:19 to play on an assist by sophomore Lauren Samela (Cheshire, Conn.). Rivard would make three more huge saves over the next five minutes including two on free positions as the Hawks would find the lead with 8:06 to play. It was Olmstead getting the goal once again this time via junior Courtney Ingham (Bedford, N.H.). McIntosh added insurance with 6:16 to play on a free position goal to bring the Hawks lead to 10-8. The Stormy Petrels would get a goal back with a minute to play, but the Hawks would hold on to win 10-9.

Inside The Numbers:
- Smith made history in the win becoming the first player in program history to hit 100 career points. Meghan has scored the most goals in program history (77) to go with the 23 assists.
- McIntosh led the offense with four goals to go with four caused turnovers. Olmstead tallied four points of her own on three goals and an assist. Ricketson added two points with a goal and a helper.
- Rivard picked up her third win of the year making 13 saves. Mandi also collected seven ground balls, while junior Sara Costa (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) picked up six.
- Makenna Bowens led the Stormy Petrels with four goals in the loss.
