WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hawks women's lacrosse team improved to 2-2 in Conference of New England (CNE) play on Saturday defeating Gordon College 19-5.
Rapid Recap:
- The Hawks quickly got a lead as sophomore Madison Olmstead (Wolcott, Conn.) raced past three Scots to score just 54 seconds in. The lead quickly jumped to 4-0 as the Hawks would score three times within 90 seconds. Senior Meghan Smith (Orange, Conn.) kicked things off with a goal on an assist by sophomore Talei Ricketson (Centennial, Colo.) Ricketson tabbed the second goal, while Olmstead got the third for the 4-0 lead. Sophomore Katie Graham (Colchester, Conn.) made the score 5-0 with 7:15 to play in the period on a feed from Ricketson. Olmstead would power home two more goals while Smith added another as the lead was 8-0 with 3:17 to play in the first. Gordon would get the first goal of the game with 2:03 to play as the deficit was seven after 15 minutes.
- Sophomore Laurel McIntosh (West Kingston, R.I.) started the scoring in the second getting a free position finish. The Scots answered producing the second goal of the game. Smith picked up another goal three minutes later, followed by a goal for sophomore Lauren Samela (Cheshire, Conn.). Kaitlyn Mini scored again for Gordon to keep the Scots within 11-3, but a 4-1 closing run from the Hawks gave the home team a 15-4 lead headed into the break. The goals came from junior Sara Costa (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) and Smith who each tallied a pair during the run.
- Junior Kelly Hoxie (Nassau, N.Y.) started the scoring in the second half finishing a strike from Olmstead. Freshman Kate Zonin (North Smithfield, R.I.) picked up her third goal of the season with an eight-meter goal as the lead expanded to 17-4 with 10:43 to play in the period. Mini picked up a hat-trick to stop the Hartford run. Samela answered to give the Hawks a 18th goal as the lead was 13 headed into the final 15 minutes.
- Olmstead picked up another assist in the fourth finding freshman Brenna Slattery (Wilbraham, Mass.) for her first home goal as the Hawks went on to win 19-5.

"I think we had really good team work today", said senior
Meghan Smith (Orange, Conn.). "I got a lot of open goals because of the passes from my team today and that's what helped me personally today. We have two huge games coming up in Nichols and the University of New England next week. If we can get those two then we will be set up for the rest of the conference play."
Inside The Numbers:
- Smith led the scoring effort with five goals to go with 12 draw controls in the win. Olmstead led the passing attack with five assists to go with four goals and four draws. Ricketson added a goal and two helpers, while Costa and Samela each tabbed two goals a piece.
- Defensively Samela led the way with three causes. Costa, Ricketson and junior Erin Johns (North Haven, Conn.) each added two a piece.
- Sophomore Mandi Rivard (Vernon, Conn.) picked up the win making a save in 30 minutes. Sophomore Emily Campbell (Plainville, Mass.) played the third quarter, while freshman Nora Miller (Ellington, Conn.) stopped two shots in the fourth.

The Hawks will travel to Dudley, Mass. on Wednesday to take on Nichols College at 4:00 PM.
