Four Hawks Named to College Sports Communicators Men's Track & Field / Cross Country Academic All-District Team

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - On Tuesday, the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District women's track & field / cross country teams were announced with five Hawks featured. 

The College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® and Academic All-District® Teams program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. To be considered for inclusion on the Academic All-District® and Academic All-America® cross country team you must be a top-50 individual performance at the 2024 NCAA regional competition. To be considered for inclusion on the Academic All-District® and Academic All-America® track & field team you must be a top-50 regional ranking in single event (indoor or outdoor). 

The four members of the team from Hartford are senior Riley Brutvan (Gardiner, N.Y.), sophomore Christopher Hergott (Hamden, Conn.), senior Joseph Stephenson (Crown Point, Ind.) and sophomore Thomas Yonkers (Farmington, Conn.). 

Brutvan ends his career ranked in 5th in the 3000 meter steeplechase event at a time of 9:33.25. Riley finished in second place in the event at the Conference of New England (CNE) Championships before also coming in second with his career-best time at the New England D3 Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 3rd. He also won the event at the Rage in the Cage Invitational in the program's first home meet. 

Hergott ranked 1st in the 100 meter dash to close his sophomore season at a time of 10.56. Christopher hit that time on April 19th at the Trinity Invitational to win the event. Hergott would later finish in 8th at the New England D3 Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 3rd with a time of 10.59. 

Stephenson ended his senior campaign ranked 9th in the hammer throw competition at a distance of 50.63 meters. Joseph placed in 2nd in the event at the CNE Championships at the distance which was his career-best. 

Yonkers finished ranked 9th in the pole vault competition clearing a height of 4.25 meters on the season. Thomas had his career finish on April 11th in the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College placing in 4th in the event.
