NEW ORLEANS, La. - This afternoon, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III Cross Country All-Academic Athletes and All-Academic Teams were announced including sophomore Owen Klein (Coventry, R.I.) and both Hartford Cross Country Teams.
The USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams and All-Academic Athletes program recognizes the nation's top cross country athletes and teams both inside and outside the classroom. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet. For teams to be included in the All-Academic Teams, the cumulative GPA must be at least a 3.10 on a 4.0 scale through the most recent grading period.
Klein placed in 37th in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Cross Country Championships on November 15th at a 8K time of 26:04.8. Owen was also a Conference of New England (CNE) All-Conference First Team selection after placing in 4th in the CNE Championships.
In addition, to Klein, both the men's team and women's team were named as All-Academic Teams. The Hartford men's team finished with a 3.33 GPA, while the women's team ended with a 3.64 GPA.
