SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Hawks traveled to the Empire state to take on Skidmore College in non-conference action. The Hawks would fall to the Thoroughbreds 13-9 on Saturday Mar. 14th.
Rapid Recap:
- Hartford would jump out to an early advantage scoring the first two goals of the contest with unassisted goals from junior Aidan Ezra (New Milford, Conn.) and senior Tobias Ballester (Westwood, N.J.). However Skidmore would come in and bring the score within one, the Hawks would retaliate with another goal from sophomore Shaun Wright (Frederick, Md.) with an assist from Ezra. Skidmore would score another goal bringing the first period score to 3-2 in favor of Hartford.
- The Hawks would come out to build on their lead to start the second period, with two quick goals as Wright and Ballester would continue to find the back of the net with each notching another goal. Skidmore would come back with a vengeance as they would score five unanswered to end the half and give them a 7-5 advantage.
- Starting the second half, Ezra would find the back of the net yet again to bring the score within one 8-7. Skidmore would come down and again and give themselves a two goal cushion once again. However, the Hawks would show resilience as senior Nick Forgione (Denville, N.J.) would find the back of the net coming off an assist from Wright, and find the back of the net again to tie the game at the end of the third period 8-8.
- It would be Skidmore who woud get things going in the final period, as they would regain the lead 9-8, only for Hartford to come back once again to tie things at nine with a goal from Wright, with the assist going to junior Michael Novotny (Cornwall, N.Y.). The Thoroughbreds would find momentum in the late stages as they would tack on four unanswered goals, and take home the victory 13-9.
Inside the Numbers:
- Wright would lead the Hawks in goals with a hat trick on the day, to go along with an assist, on six shots, and five shots on goal. Forgione would notch two goals on the day with three shots, and two shots on goal. Ezra would finish with two goals as well, in addition to an assist, on two shots, and two on goal. Ballester would also finish with two goals, with three shots, two on goal, to go along with five ground balls.
- Graduate Student Nick Didomizio (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior Jaxson Vogel (Danvers, Mass.) would each earn two caused turnovers. With Vogel nabbing three ground balls and Didomizio with two.
- Junior CJ Ledwick (Falmouth, Mass.) would notch 14 saves between the posts seeing all 60 minutes of action and allowing 13 goals.
- Skidmore out shot Hartford 40-24, as well as lead shots on goal 27-13.
