Beebe's Breakout Day Leads Hawks Softball to Sweep Over Curry College

MILTON, Mass. - The Hartford Softball team traveled to Curry College on Wednesday afternoon for a double header to open conference play. The Hawks would sweep both games, taking game one 10-8 and game two 9-1.

Rapid Recap Game 1 (W, 10-8):

  • The Hawks would jump on the board just three batters into the game from a two-run blast from junior Adelie Beebe (Sacramento, Calif.) to put the Hawks up 2-0. The Hawks would bat around in the second as well. Freshman Alina Weaver (Nazareth, Pa.) poked a single through the right side to make it 3-0.
  • After a quiet third, things went nuts in the fourth. In the top half the Hawks would load the bases, Beebe brought the first run in reaching on an error. A walk would bring in the next run, which was followed by back-to-back doubles from senior Anita Farkash (Seaford, N.Y) and senior Gia Miccio (Bellmore, N.Y), after the inning commenced, the Hawks lead 8-0.
  • Curry wouldn't go away slowly, they finally got to junior Gracie Hopkins (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) after three Hawk errors, four hits, six runs, and just two outs, Hopkins would be chased, Sophomore Ella Zobel (Clarence, N.Y) could take over. Zobel was greeted with a double from Ana Tsonis which would bring in the seventh run charged to Hopkins and slide the Hawks lead down to just one run. In the fifth the Hawks bats went quiet which allowed the Colonels to tie the game at 8-8 after a single and stole base.
  • After a scoreless sixth, sophomore Lucy Lembo (Albany, N.Y.) led off the seventh with a lead off single and she would come home to give the Hawks the lead two batters later thanks to a clutch double from sophomore Katrina Baran (Townsend, Del.) In the bottom of the seventh Zobel pitched around a pair of singles with no outs and rallied to give the Hawks a 10-8 victory in game 1.

In th Circle:

  • Hopkins went three and two thirds allowing four earned runs and punching out five. Zobel gets credit for the win, improving her record to 2-0 on the year, she tossed three and one third striking out three and allowing one earned run.

At the Plate:

  • Beebe went three-for-five with two RBIs and two runs scored. Both Weaver and Baran were  on base three times and each drove in a run. Sophomore Alyssa Edwards (Stoughton, Mass.) was on base three times and drove in a run.
Rapid Recap Game 2 (W, 9-1):
  • Just like in game 1 the Hawks would quickly get on the board in the first inning when Baran would scoot home from third on a wild pitch. Beebe would hit a carbon copy home run in nearly the same spot as game 1, to make it 3-0. Curry would get one back in the bottom of the inning on a sac-fly.
  • After a quiet second, in the third Beebe would come up to the dish, and hit her second two run shot of the game and third of the day making it 5-1 Hartford. Curry was attempting to rally back again in the bottom frame but they were shut down by senior Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.) who struck out back to back Colonels with the bases loaded to end the third.
  • Hartford's bats kept batting around in the fourth, Farkash would score on a wild pitch then junior Sydney Matz (Ellington, Conn.) drove in another one pushing the Hawks lead to 7-1. Mayhood then shut the Curry offense down again bringing the bats back up. Baran would score the first run of the inning from a sac-fly from Miccio, then senior Taylor Fitch (Andover, Conn.) brought in what would be the mercy rule clinching run after Mayhood sat Curry down in order once again in the bottoms of the fifth and the Hawks would come out on top in five innings via mercy rule 9-1.

In the Circle:

  • Mayhood went all five innings only allowing two hits and one run. She struck out seven and allowed a single walk.

At the Plate:

  • A pair of two run shots from Beebe propelled the offense. Miccio and Fitch both went one-for-two and drove in a run. Farkash also had a pair of hits and scored a run.
