Hartford Softball Sweeps Wentworth in Home Doubleheader

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford Softball team took on Wentworth Institute of Technology this Tuesday afternoon, the Hawks swept the Wildcats ending the first game, 3-0 and the second 9-1.

Rapid Recap Game 1 (W,  3-0):

  • Game one opened as a defensive battle, with both teams held scoreless in the first inning. Wentworth threatened early with base runners, but Hartford worked out of trouble to keep the game even.
  • The Hawks broke through in the second inning as senior Anita Farkash (Seaford, N.Y.) launched a two-run home run out to left field. Hartford added another run later in the frame with senior Gia Miccio (Bellmore, N.Y.) coming around to score on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • From there, Hartford's pitching and defense took control, limiting Wentworth to just a few hits while shutting down scoring opportunities. Wentworth had chances late in the seventh, but the Hawks held firm to secure the 3-0 victory.

In the Circle:

  • Farkash led the Hawks with a two-run home run, finishing with two RBIs. Miccio added a double and a run scored.

At the Plate:

  • Senior Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.) delivered a complete game shutout, allowing just four hits while striking out six over seven innings in the win.

Rapid Recap Game 2 (W, 9-1):

  • Hartford got on the board early in game two, capitalizing on a Wentworth error in the first inning as Miccio delivered an RBI single to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats answered in the third with an RBI ground out to even the score at 1-1.
  • The Hawks quickly responded in the bottom half of the third, stringing together timely hits to plate three runs. Miccio singled out to center field to bring home senior Taylor Fitch (Andover, Conn.) and sophomore Alyssa Edwards (Stoughton, Mass.). Sophomore Lucy Lembo (Albany, N.Y.) then added an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-1.
  • Hartford broke the game open in the fifth inning, erupting for five runs on four hits. Junior Adelie Beebe (Sacramento, Calif.) delivered a two-RBI single before Edwards capped off the inning with a two-run homer to push the lead to 9-1 and seal the victory.

In the Circle:

  • Sophomore Ella Zobel (Clarence, N.Y.) earned the win, allowing just one run on one hit while striking out four across five innings.

At the Plate:

  • Edwards led the offense with a two-run home run, finishing with two hits, one walk, and two RBIs. Miccio tallied a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs, while Beebe chipped in with a two-RBI single. 

Up Next:
The Hawks will take on Westfield State University this upcoming Thursday, April 2nd at home in a double-header match-up. The first game takes place at 2:30 p.m. followed by the second at 4:30 p.m.
