WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Nichols College on Sunday afternoon, earning a 2-1 win in game one before rallying late for a 7-5 comeback victory in game two at home.
Rapid Recap Game 1 (W, 2-1):
- Nichols got on the board in the top of the first, using a walk, a Hartford error, and an RBI single to sneak in an early 1-0 lead. The Hawks answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Sophomore Katrina Baran (Townsend, Del.) tripled down the right field line, and sophomore Alyssa Edwards (Stoughton, Mass.) followed with an RBI single through the left side to even the score at 1-1.
- Both teams were held in check over the next two innings, as neither side recorded a hit in the second or third.
- Hartford broke through in the fourth inning when junior Adelie Beebe (Sacramento, Calif.) led off the frame with a solo home run to left field, giving the Hawks a 2-1 advantage. Senior Gia Miccio (Bellmore, N.Y.) followed with a double later in the inning, but Nichols was able to strand Miccio and keep it a one-run game.
- Nichols threatened in the seventh after a lead off single and a sacrifice bunt moved the tying run into scoring position, but the Hawks shut the door with a strikeout and a foul out to secure their 2-1 opening win.

Senior Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.) delivered a complete game performance, tossing all seven innings to earn the Hawks' win. Mayhood allowed just three hits and one unearned run while working four walks. Mayhood recorded four strikeouts in the 21 batters faced.
At the Plate:
Rapid Recap Game 2 (W, 7-5):
- Nichols opened the match in similar style to the first, manufacturing a run with a hit-by-pitch, two stolen bases and a sac fly to take the 1-0 lead.
- Freshman Alina Weaver (Nazareth, Pa.) and Baran set the table before Miccio delivered a two-RBI single to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead. Nichols capitalized on errors in the third plate four runs and took a 5-2 advantage.
- Hartford chipped away with a run in the third on an RBI single from senior Anita Farkash (Seaford, N.Y.), then added another in the fourth as Baran drove in a run to make it 5-4. The Hawks tied the game in the fifth when Miccio came around to score on a sacrifice fly.
- Hartford took the lead for good in the sixth, loading the bases before Beebe drew a walk to force in the go-ahead run. Miccio followed with a sac fly to extend the lead. The Hawks closed out the day victorious taking the second match, 7-5.
In the Circle:
- Sophomore Ella Zobel (Clarence, N.Y.) started it off pitching for three innings, allowing one hit and five runs. Zobel faced 12 batters, walking two and striking out one.
- Junior Gracie Hopkins (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) was dominant in relief, tossing four scoreless innings to earn the win. She kept the Bison off the board down the stretch to secure the 7-5 victory.
At the Plate:
- Hartford tallied 10 hits in game two, led by Weaver's four-hit performance at the top of the lineup. Baran added a pair of hits, including a double, while also reaching base three times.
- Miccio drove in three runs on the day, delivering a key two-RBI single and a sac-fly later in the game.
- Beebe reached base three times and drove in a run, Farkash and freshman Priya Bedard (Medway, Mass.) each recorded an RBI as part of the balanced offensive effort.
