Hartford Softball Sweeps Gordon College in Midweek Double Header

WEST HARTFORD, CONN. - The Hawks would play host to Gordon College in a Conference of New England CNE midweek double header match up. Hartford would sweep the double header winning game one 9-0, and game two 13-2.  

Game 1:
Rapid Recap:

  • Hartford would get things going early, as in the first inning sophomore Alyssa Edwards (Stoughton, Mass.) would hit a double into right center field to bring in the first run of the day. Later in the inning senior Gia Miccio (Bellemore, N.Y.) would single to second base, and bring in Edwards to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead in the early goings. 
  • In the second inning freshman Alina Weaver (Nazareth, Pa.) would double down the left field line to add to their lead. 

  • In the third inning, senior Anita Farkash (Seaford, N.Y.) would single into center field and plate two more runs for the Hawks. And later in the inning Farkash would come across to score via a single from Weaver. Sophomore Katrina Baran (Townsend, Del.) would bring in another run with an RBI single up the middle, as through three innings, Hartford would lead 7-0.

  • In the fourth inning Miccio would bring in yet another run as she would single to the shortstop and plate one. Later in the inning, the Hawks would bring in their final run of the first game as Farkash would drop a single into right field and bring home Miccio, for a final score of 9-0.


At the Plate:

  • Miccio would lead the Hawks at the dish going 3-3 with two RBIs, coming across to score twice, and notching one stolen base. Weaver would finish game one 2-2 at the plate with an RBI double and scoring once. Farkash would go 2-3 with three RBIs and score once. 

  • Hartford would only strike out four times in game one.

  • The Hawks would end game one with two extra base hits. 
     

In the Circle:

  • Senior Carly Mayhood (Andover, N.J.) would get the start throwing a complete game throwing 5.0 innings with no runs on one hit, and seven strikeouts in 16 batters faced. 
     

Post Game Press:
Miccio said after game one "I feel like we did a good job at adjusting to slow vs. fast pitching, we were just staying back looking for small hits nothing big. Carly's been great, but when (the pitchers) are on, we bounce off them really easily, and it motivates us to do well at the plate."

 

Game 2: 
Rapid Recap: 

  • Hartford would keep the bats hot into game two as they would plate four runs in the first inning coming off a pair of RBI singles from Edwards and junior Adelie Beebe (Sacramento, Calif.) Later in the inning, Beebe would get caught stealing and on the throw Edwards would scurry down the third base line to score. Farkash would bring in another run with an RBI single. 
  • The Hawks would add to their lead in the second inning, as Edwards would single up the middle to score one. Beebe would bring Edwards and Baran with a double into left center field. Miccio singled up the middle and brought Beebe home. Sophomore Ella Zobel (Clarence, N.Y.) would bring in Miccio with another RBI single up the middle, giving Hartford a 9-0 lead after two innings. 

  • In the third inning, Gordon College would bring in a pair of runs via a throwing error. In the bottom half of the inning, Miccio flew out to center field, scoring Baran, and making it a 10-2 ballgame. 

  • In the fourth inning, Weaver would launch a solo homer into left center field, to give the Hawks an 11-2 lead. Later in the fourth senior Lauren Ackerman (North Branford, Conn.) would come in and bring in two runs on a hard hit double into left field, which would be the final runs of the day as the Hawks would end the game in five innings 13-2. 
     

At the Plate:

  • Edwards would finish game two going 4-4 with two RBI and coming across to score three times. Baran would end game two 3-3 and come across to score four runs. Beebe would end the day going 2-2 with three RBI. Miccio would finish going 2-2 with 2 RBIs and scoring twice. 

  • The Hawks would end game two without being struckout

  • Hartford would have 18 hits, with four extra base hits. 

In the Circle:

  • Zobel would get the start for Hartford going 4.0 innings, giving up two runs on two hits, with six strikeouts and five walks in 22 batters faced. 

  • Junior Alex Hassett (Granby, Conn.) would come in for relief going 1.0 innings, giving up no hits on no runs, with two strikeouts and no walks, in 3 batters faced. 

 

Up Next:
Hartford will take on CNE Opponent Johnson and Wales on Saturday April 25th for a double header, with first pitch slated for 12:00PM.
