WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford Hawks and UNE Nor'easters battled to a double header split on Sunday afternoon with the Hawks falling in game one, 6-4 and taking game two, 9-7 on Senior Day.
Rapid Recap Game 1: (L 6-4):
- Senior Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.) had an electric start by striking out three batters and leaving the bases loaded to keep UNE off the scoreboard in the first. The Hawks would threaten in the bottom of the first but would not score. In the second UNE would rifle off three straight singles off of Mayhood with two outs to get the first run on the board. In the bottom half the Hawks would get a pair of two out doubles of their own from senior Taylor Fitch (Andover, Conn.) and freshman Alina Weaver (Nazareth, Pa.) to put the Hawks in front 2-1 after two. After a scoreless third UNE would even the score on a single from Hannah Irons.
- Both teams would go quiet as Mayhood was dominating in the circle only allowing one baserunner from the third till the sixth. The Hawks would finally take the lead back in the bottom of the sixth after senior Gia Miccio (Bellmore, N.Y) walked and stole second base then two batters freshman Arianna Hernandez (Fair Lawn, N.J.) would drive Miccio home on an RBI single to put the Hawks up 3-2 after six innings. With one out until victory for the Hawks UNE would not go anywhere, they would take the lead on a two run double from Irons than a two run homer would put them up for good and end Mayhood's day, hitting the Hawks for 4 runs in the final frame going going up 6-3. The Hawks would try to rally in the bottom half, but despite a sac-fly from junior Adelie Beebe (Sacramento, Calif.) the rally would fall short and UNE came out victorious 6-4 in game 1.

At the Plate
- Weaver had a pair of hits and drove in one. Miccio had one hit but was on twice and stole two bases moving her to third all time in single season stolen bases in Hartford history. Hernandez and Fitch each added an RBI double for the Hawks.
Rapid Recap Game 2 (W, 9-7):
- Game 2 started in wild fashion with each team scoring four runs in the first frame. A pair of Hawk errors lead to the four UNE runs. The Hawks would respond with four of their own Gia Miccio drove in Alina Weaver for the first run via a fielder's choice, Miccio would come on home on a double from sophomore Alyssa Edwards (Stoughton, Mass.). After a wild pitch moved two Hawks runners into scoring position sophomore Ella Zobel (Clarence, N.Y.) put a single up the middle to score them both and tie the score at 4-4. In the second Zobel in the circle shut down the UNE bats giving the Hawks a chance ti take the lead and take it they did, Miccio delivered again as the senior tripled home Weaver to put the Hawks in front 5-4.
- Each team went down in order in the third, in the fourth UNE would keep responding to the Hawks and rally with two outs on a double and walk before Emma Michaud drove both of the runs in to give the Nor'easters a 6-5 lead. Zobel's day was done after that, junior Gracie Hopkins (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) who sat down UNE in order to give the Hawks an opportunity to grab the lead and they did not waste the opportunity. They would load the bases on three straight walks to start the inning before Edwards came up clutch and drove in two on a single to the right center gap to score two and regain the 7-6 lead for the Hawks. Hopkins sat the UNE bats down once again in the sixth working through a lead off single and once again the Hawk bats would put runs on the board. This time the Hawks were the ones with a two out rally as three straight hits were capped off with a Miccio two run single to extend the Hawk lead to 9-6. A solo home run in the top of the seventh is all UNE had to offer and Hopkins shut the door after that helping the Hawks come out on top 9-7.
In the Circle
- Zobel threw four innings allowing four earned runs on four hits while walking three. Hopkins got the win and was stellar in her three innings allowing one earned run and four hits.
At the Plate:
- Weaver was on base three times from the leadoff spot and touched home all three times. Miccio went two for three while driving in four, she stole a base which tied her for the all time single season lead in school history. Edwards had three hits, two of them being doubles, and drove in three runs. Zobel went one for three with two rbi's.
