Hartford Softball Swept by Trinity College

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford softball team dropped both non-conference games on Tuesday falling to Trinity College on the road. 

Rapid Recap Game 1 (L, 8-0):

  • The Hawks left the bases loaded in the first two innings without registering a run as Kaysen Shikar got out of both jams. The Bantams would explode for four runs in the bottom of the second with two outs getting three straight hits to jump ahead. 
  • In the fourth Trinity added two more runs on a RBI triple and a RBI double. The game concluded in fifth on a walk-off two RBI double down the right field line as the Bantams took a 8-0 game one win. 

In th Circle:

  • Junior Gracie Hopkins (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) picked up the loss, tossing three innings allowing four runs on five hits with a strikeout. Sophomore Ella Zobel (Clarence, N.Y.) threw the remaining five outs allowing four runs on three hits. 

At the Plate:

  • Hartford only managed four hits in the loss. Senior Gia Miccio (Bellmore, N.Y.) kept her hitting-streak alive as well as breaking the single-season stolen base record hitting 19 on the season. 
Rapid Recap Game 2 (L, 4-3):
  • Hartford jumped ahead 1-0 in the first as Miccio singled, stole second and came home on an sophomore Alyssa Edwards (Stoughton, Mass.) double. Junior Alex Hassett (Granby, Conn.) was dealing through the first four innings only allowing three hits. 
  • The Hawks picked up a second run in the top of the fifth as Miccio hit a sacrifice fly to score freshman Gillian Ulrich (West Nyack, N.Y.) who singled to start the inning. The lead grew more in the sixth as freshman Demetra Stamboulos (Leonia, N.J.) singled, stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Lucy Lembo (Albany, N.Y.). The Bantams would get a single run back in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI double. Trinity College would rally in the bottom of the seventh to walk-off the Hawks. It started with a triple and then a single. Followed by a walk and a two-ribby double to win it. 

In the Circle:

  • Hassett pitched well for Hartford tossing six innings allowing just two runs on six hits with two punchouts. Senior Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.) picked up the loss allowing two runs. 

At the Plate:

  • Ulrich went 2-for-3 to lead the offense. Miccio went 1-for-3 with a run, stolen base and RBI. Stamboulos added a 1-for-1 day. 

Up Next:
The Hawks will conclude the regular season hosting Westfield State on Thursday with a 3:00 PM start.
