West Hartford, CT – The University of Hartford women's soccer team dropped its fourth-straight match on Thursday, falling to the University of Maine Black Bears by a 1-0 final at Al-Marzook Field. The setback was the Hawks' third-consecutive game decided by a 1-0 final score. The Hawks continue to search for their first conference victory as they drop to 0-4-1 in the America East with an overall mark of 4-9-2. With the win, Maine improves its overall record to 5-5-2 with a record of 2-2-1 in the league.
Amidst the first snow falling on Al-Marzook Field, Hartford and Maine battled to a scoreless tie at the half. Maine senior Laura Martel notched the game-deciding goal in the 75th minute to boost the Black Bears over the Hawks. The score was her ninth of the season, a team- and conference-best. The forward unloaded a shot from the top of the box straight on to the net, out of reach of Hartford keeper Lauren Brodeur.
Sophomore Breeanna Robinson led the offensive attack for the Hawks in the first 45 minutes, racking up all three shots for the Hawks. She finished with a team-high four attempts, including one on goal mid-way through the second period.
Hartford outshot Maine in the second half and held a 10-8 advantage in the shots column through the entire 90 minutes. The Hawks also held the advantage in corner kicks with a 6-4 lead. The Hawks saw two of their 10 shots go on goal, forcing Maine keeper Meagan Price-Leibenzeder to make two saves. In goal for the Hawks, Brodeur saved both shots she faced in the first half.
The Hawks next play on Sunday, October 18 when they travel to Boston University to face the Terriers. Boston University is currently set at the top of the America East standings with a record of 5-0-0 in the league. The Hawks and Terriers are scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. kick-off.
