West Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to the Holy Cross Crusaders in the first of two midweek matches. The Hawks will host Wagner in a dual match with the women on Thursday. The women's team will start at 12:00 p.m., while the men start at 3:00 p.m.
In doubles play, the Crusaders squeaked out victories in second and third doubles to win the point. Hartford's Aneil Bhalla and Eric Dove scored an 8-1 victory in the first doubles position. The Hawks second doubles team of Matthew Seltzer and Rich Lieberman narrowly missed a victory, taking Angelo Sica and John Burke to extra games before falling 9-7.
Dove, Bhalla and Seltzer all scored victories in singles play. Dove defeated Sica in the second doubles position by 6-1, 6-2 scores. Bhalla won at third doubles, posting scores of 6-4, 7-5 over Burke, while Seltzer won at fourth doubles, defeating Dan Phelan 6-2, 7-5.
Filip Miletic gave the Hawks life in the fifth singles position, taking Jay DeSanto to an extra set before falling. Miletic won the first set by a 6-3 score and dropped the second by an identical mark, before DeSanto won the final set 6-0.
