Two Hawks Make Inside Lacrosse Final Freshman Rankings

WEST HARTFORD, CT - Two members of the University of Hartford lacrosse team were named in the Inside Lacrosse Final 2009 Freshman Rankings on Monday.

Rookies Aidan Genikand Scott Bementwere listed among the top 25 freshmen in the country. Genik checked in at #15 on the list while Bement was tabbed #21. Click here to read the Inside Lacrosse article.

Both Genik and Bement were named to the America East All-Rookie Team. Genik became the first freshman to lead the Hawks in scoring since 1989, recording a team-high 24 goals and 10 assists for 34 points. Bement, who was also named America East Rookie of the Year and made the all-conference second team, recorded a save percentage (.577) that led the conference and ranked 13th nationally. He also led the America East in saves per game (12.7) and ranked second among starting goalies in goals-against average (9.76).

Hartford finished 2-11 overall on the season and picked up its first conference win since 2007. The Hawks lost eight games by two goals or less, including four by a single goal. The team, which graduated only seven seniors in the spring, will return all but two starters in 2010.
