BOX SCORE
West Hartford, CT – Five second half goals, including two each from freshman Alex Uscilla and junior Mary Beth Hamilton lifts the Hawks to a 5-2 victory over in-state rival Central Connecticut State on Sunday afternoon.
After giving up a goal in the 28th minute off a free kick from Leah Blayney and being outshot 7-4 in the first 45 minutes, the Hawks (3-3-0 overall) regrouped during the break and came out ready to play in the second half.
Uscilla, a striker, looked to score right out of the gate in the second half, knotting the score at one just 2:44 into the second stanza. Hamilton assisted on the goal as she sent a pass through the defense as Uscilla used a chip shot over the keeper to score.
Hartford put three more goals on the board in the next 20 minutes to put the game out of reach for the Blue Devils (2-3-1 overall). The Hawks go-ahead goal came six minutes after the tying goal as Breeanna Robinson scored her first goal of the season in the 54th minute. Uscilla picked up the assist on the go-ahead goal as she controlled a bad clear attempt by Central and passed across the box where Robinson scored.
Hamilton then picked up her first of two-straight goals, the first proving to be the game winner. Robinson assisted on the first goal as she received a long pass and after controlling the ball, sent a pass across the box where Robinson chipped it in, over the keeper.
Hamilton's second goal came seven minutes later, in the 68th minute, off a pass from Shealagh Begley, who had just entered the game. Begley sent a pass across the goal where Hamilton chipped in the insurance goal.
Central wasn't going to give the game away, scoring their second goal in the 85th minute. Clio Tregear scored for the Blue Devils off a Blayney assist. Blayney sent a pass forward as Tregear scored on a shot through the defense that escaped the reach of Hartford keeper Lauren Brodeur over her head.
Hartford's Uscilla added one more insurance foal in the 89th minute. Robinson sent a long pass over the Central defense that Blue Devils keeper Caity Casey misplayed and Uscilla headed into the goal, escaping a defender who was unable to track it down.
The Hawks return to Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium for their third-straight home game on Thursday, when they welcome the University of Massachusetts for a 6:00 p.m. first kick.
