Women's Soccer Earns Point in 0-0 Tie with Albany

BOX SCORE

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -
The Hartford women's soccer team remains unbeaten in America East play, keeping that record intact with a 0-0 tie with Albany on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks demonstrated yet again their strong defense, earning their fifth shutout of the season and second in a row. Junior goalkeeper Lauren Brodeur made five saves as Hartford held its opponent under two goals for the seventh time in eight games.

Defender Christiana Lang earned America East Player of the Match honors for the Hawks (4-6-3, 1-0-2) for her stellar efforts in the backfield. Midfielder Rebecca Lee garnered the distinction for Albany (5-6-1, 0-1-1).

Defensively, Hartford had to deal with an Albany team that was not afraid to fire away from any spot in the offensive half of the field. The Great Danes ended up totaling 18 shots for the game, although only five were on goal and fewer than that provided Brodeur with any serious challenge. For the most part, the Hawks succeeded in preventing Albany from getting open looks at the net and neutralized the Albany attack.

On the offensive end, the Hawks could not get the open space they were able to find on Thursday night against Binghamton. Nevertheless, Hartford played a smart offensive game, and found themselves with several good looks as the clock wound down in the second overtime period. That time, it was Albany's defense which stepped up as they closed gaps quickly and prevented Hartford from getting off a shot.

Caroline Dixon led the way for Hartford with two shots, both on goal. Amelia Pereira also fired two shots, one on Albany goalkeeper Breanna Maggio.

Hartford will now look forward to the third and final game on this homestand, when they welcome first-place Boston University into Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the matchup between the conference's top two teams coming into the weekend are still available, and can be purchased by calling 860-768-HAWKS.
