Softball Blanked by Stony Brook, 6-0, in Series Finale

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The University of Hartford suffered its third-straight loss, a 6-0 decision to the Stony Brook Seawolves, on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Seawolves completed the sweep of the three-game series and improve to 18-11 overall (6-3 AE). Hartford falls to 13-11 with a mark of 2-7 in league play.

The Hawks saw just four runners on the base path as Alyssa Struzenberg threw a three-hit shutout for the Seawolves. The huler finished with 13 strikeouts. Junior Amanda Dilworth finished with a pair of singles and Ann Kyzer notched one hit to lead Hartford. For the Seawolves, three players notched multi-hit games with Vicki Kavitzy leading the squad. The shortstop finished 2-for-4 with a home run, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice.

Rookie Nicole Springer suffered her first loss in the circle for the Hawks. She allowed six runs on 11 hits and finished with two strikeouts.

Stony Brook plated a single run in the second and again in the third to jump out to a 2-0 lead. A three-run fourth inning sparked by Kavitsky's two-out RBI single cushioned the Seawolves' lead to 5-0. Casey Jacobs, who led off the fifth with a double to centerfield, capped Stony Brook's scoring on the afternoon when she crossed the plate on a single by Bernadette Tenuto.

Hartford returns to the UH Softball Field with a doubleheader against the Rhode Island Rams on Wednesday, April 14. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
