BALTIMORE, Md. - The University of Hartford men's lacrosse team clawed back from an early 4-0 first quarter deficit to close out its 2010 campaign with a 14-12 defeat of the UMBC Retrievers at a hot and steamy UMBC Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Nine different players scored for the Hawks with sophomore Ryan Compitello coming off the bench to match a career game with five points on a pair of goals and a career-best three assists. Carter Bender also matched a career-best with four points, netting three goals and dishing out one assist while rookie Jared Franze and sophomore Aidan Genik each scored twice. Senior Matt Latham finished with four goals and one assist for a team-best five points.
Hartford clawed back from a 4-0 first quarter deficit and rallied to take a 7-6 halftime lead over the Retrievers. The Hawks never looked back aftter the half and went on to outscore the Retrievers, 12-10, over the final 30 minutes to pull off the 14-12 win.
