Fallon Closes Out 2010 Lacrosse Season as National Leader in Face-Off Percentage and Ground Balls

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – With another lacrosse season in the books, University of Hartford men's lacrosse player Tim Fallon proved himself to be one of the top – if not the best – face-off specialists in the country. According to the Division I statistics, there's not a better player in the nation at this position.

Fallon closed out the 2010 season ranked on top of the NCAA statistics in both face-off percentage and ground balls. The junior dominated the face-off X, winning 207 of his 333 duels (62.2-percent) while scooping up 131 ground balls (9.4 per game). More impressively, Fallon held the reigns as the national leader in face-offs for five consecutive weeks and led the country in ground balls for eight-straight weeks.

Last month, Fallon became just the second Hawk to earn a nod to the Division I United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's All-American list when he landed honorable mention accolades following his stellar performance over the course of the 2010 season. Chris LaMonica, a goalie, received the same honor in 1997 after posting a record breaking season for Hartford.

Fallon, a two-time America East All-Conference selection, posted career-best numbers in 2010 with seven points including three goals and four assists. The Lowell, Mass. native was named to the America East All-Conference First Team this season and in 2009, he garnered second team honors.

Fallon engraved his name in the Hartford career record book this season, breaking the all-time single season ground ball record with 131. In addition, his face-off percentage of 62.2 is the second-best recorded by a Hawk in a single season. Fallon also cracked the program's all-time career record books, sliding into the seventh spot with 238 ground balls.

Hartford finished 4-10 on the season and concluded America East conference play with a mark of 1-4. The Hawks posted the most wins since the 2003 campaign when they finished 9-8 overall. In addition, Hartford lost six games by two goals or less, including four by a single goal. The team, which graduates only a pair of seniors, will return all but one starter next season.
