KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Dan Zenevitch, one of the newest members of the University of Hartford men's lacrosse team, competed in the 2010 Champion High School Showcase last month. The showcase was held as part of the ESPN Rise Games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena, Fla. Players were selected through the United States Lacrosse Men's and Women's Division Coaches.
Zenevitch, a goalie, was one of 96 of the nation's best graduated high school graduates invited to participate in the three-day event that kicked off on July 20. The Hartford commit anchored the Spirit Team between the pipes, helping lead the squad to a gold medal behind a perfect 4-0 record. In the first half of the championship game, Zenevitch held the potent Freedom offense to just four goals. Zenevitch represented the Hawks well as he was named to the All-ESPN Rise Games Team at the conclusion of the Showcase.
Zenevitch comes to Hartford from Worcester, Mass., where he starred at St. Peter Marion High School as a six-year lacrosse player. A two-year captain and two-time Telegram & Gazette Super Team selection, the goalie also garnered All-American accolades as a senior. In addition, Zenevitch was a standout high school football player where he spent five seasons with the squad. Serving as team captain during his senior campaign in 2009, Zenevitch earned spots on the Central Massachusetts All-Star Team and the Division 1-C All-Star Team.
Zenevitch and 10 additional newcomers will join 31 returning student-athletes for the upcoming 2011 season as the Hawks begin the quest for their first America East Championship appearance since the 2003 season.
