Women's Soccer Takes Road Victory at Fairleigh Dickinson, 1-0

BOX SCORE

TEANECK, N.J. -
Nicole Weil scored her first goal as a member of the Hartford women's soccer team, snapping a three-game scoreless drought for the Hawks as they traveled to Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday and claimed a 1-0 victory. The Hawks' defense put together its second consecutive strong outing and second shutout of the season, holding the Knights to just two shots all game. Junior goalkeeper Lauren Brodeur was only challenged once, making the save.

The Hawks controlled the action from the outset, putting the pressure on Fairleigh Dickinson with five first-half shots to just one for the Knights. In the game's 23rd minute, the Hawks were awarded a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. The free kick came in and was knocked away by a Knights defender, but FDU could not knock it out as Weil corralled the ball and sent it to the back of the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

The goal snapped a three-game scoreless streak for Hartford. The Hawks kept pressuring Fairleigh Dickinson, putting three more shots up by the end of the period. Junior Breeanna Robinson led the Hawks with three shots, two of which were saved by the Knights' Stephanie Tanzi.

Things did not change in the second half, when Hartford once again outshot the Knights 5-1. Sophomore Amelia Pereira had two chances, one on goal. Fairleigh Dickinson did not get a shot off until less than ten minutes remained in the contest, and that attempt went wide right off of a corner kick.

The Hawks will be back in action on Friday evening when they travel a short distance down the road to visit Central Connecticut in New Britain at 5 p.m. Hartford will wrap up its home non-conference schedule on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Saint Joseph's.
