BOX SCORE
FAIRFIELD, Conn. - In its final non-conference game of the season, the Hartford women's soccer team came away with its first draw of 2010, playing host Fairfield to a 0-0 tie on Thursday evening.
Lauren Brodeur had five saves for the Hawks, who will head into America East play this weekend with a record of 3-6-1.
The Hawks defense was up to the challenge on Thursday, especially in overtime when Fairfield peppered the Hartford end with corner kicks. Fairfield was awarded a seemingly endless succession of corner kicks for the final six minutes of play, but despite the pressurized situation, Hartford did not allow so much as a shot on goal in extra time.
Hartford junior
Breeanna Robinson rifled two shots on goal, including what was likely the Hawks' best scoring opportunity. In the 84th minute of play, Robinson found herself on a breakaway heading towards the left edge of the goal and Fairfield's keeper, Kelly Boudreau. All alone with only Boudreau to beat, Robinson laced a screamer towards the far post that looked like it would give Hartford a late 1-0 lead, but Boudreau made a desperate, diving save to preserve the shutout and the tie score.
Robinson's chance came just six minutes after Fairfield nearly dented the scoreboard. Lauren Reilly beat Brodeur, but the Hawks were able to come up with a team save off Reilly's shot to keep the Stags off the board.
Sophomore
Caroline Dixon led the way for Hartford with six shots, three of which challenged Boudreau to make saves.
Hartford will return to action on Sunday afternoon, visiting Stony Brook to open America East play. The Hawks will look to improve on last year's seventh-place finish in league play and return to the America East Championship.
