WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -
Playing its final home matches of the season, the Hartford men's tennis team fell in conference matchups with Binghamton and Stony Brook. The Hawks dropped a 7-0 decision to Binghamton, then fell 6-0 to Stony Brook in a singles-only match shortened due to impending rain. The Hartford women's tennis team, which still has a home match remaining on Tuesday against Bryant, fell by the same 7-0 and 6-0 figures.

Playing Binghamton in a match which began at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Hall High School, the men saw their three doubles teams swept as the Bearcats got the early 1-0 overall lead. Aneil Bhalla and Josh Isaacson fell 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Marco Neves and Bogdan Nedelcu put up a fight at No. 2 doubles before ceding an 8-3 decision.

In singles play, it was Bhalla who had the strongest showing for the Hawks. He took his match at No. 1 singles to 6-3 in the first set before falling, 6-1 in the second. At the next three singles positions on the ladder, Neves, Isaacson and Eric Floum each fell by identical 6-1, 6-0 counts.

In Binghamton, the Hawks were facing a team with four of the top 20 singles players in the Northeast in the most recent ITA rankings. The doubles team of Vloedgraven and Wong also ranked as the ninth-best in the region.

With bad weather moving into the area, the Hawks and Seawolves agreed not to play the doubles point in their match later in the afternoon. The result was six singles victories for Stony Brook, although Hartford did have a stronger showing. Joel de los Santos put up the most consistent battle, falling 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6. Isaacson dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision at No. 3, while Bhalla and Neves each fell 6-2, 6-1 at the top two spots in Hartford's lineup.

Bogdan Nedelcu fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5, while Floum dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 4.

On the women's side, the Bearcats handled the Hawks, not allowing Hartford to win a single game in doubles. In fact, only Maggie Sabatino, who fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Ashley Harel (6-0, 6-2 at No. 3) drew blood for more than one game against their counterparts from Binghamton. Nicole Haynal fell at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0, as the Bearcats swept their way to a 7-0 victory.

Much like the men, the Bearcat women feature multiple ranked players in their lineup, including Anna Edelman, sitting second overall in the Northeast according to the ITA.

Against Stony Brook, Haynal had the best showing for the Hawks, battling to a 6-3 defeat in the first set before dropping the second, 6-0. Katina Zampas and Harel each picked up a game in their matches, Zampas falling 6-0 at the top of the lineup and Harel doing the same at No. 3. Sabatino, Kaitlin Lennon and Emily Willhoft were swept in their singles matches.

The women will host Bryant on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in their final home match of the season. The men wrap up their regular season on April 21 at Boston University. That match will also get underway at 3:00 p.m.
