WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford women's soccer team revenged an earlier season loss to the Vermont Catamounts with a 2-0 shutout in the semifinals of the America East Championship. The Hawks will host the Stony Brook Seawolves for the title game on Sunday, November 4 with the opening kick scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

The game-winning tally for the Hawks came from senior Amelia Pereira, the 2012 America East Striker of the Year. Pereira connected with classmate Caitlin Alves for her 13th score, and sixth game-winning goal, of the season. Alves started the play when she dribbled up from midfield and provided a forward pass through two defenders. Pereira tracked down the ball and after turning around one defender sent a shot from 17 yards out that curved over the outstretched arms of Vermont keeper Ally Ramos and snuck under the cross bar.

Rookie Elise Galipo provided the insurance tally for Hartford in the second half working off of one of the Hawks 12 corner kick opportunities. Pereira began the play with her service from the corner that deflected off of Alves where Galipo was able to finish off with a header to the back of the net. The goal for Galipo is her fourth of the season, while the assist for Alves is her fourth and Pereira's is her seventh, which ties her for the most in the league.

Overall, the Hawks finished with an 8-6 shot advantage. Hartford forced Ramos to make three saves, one in the opening half and two in the second half. Hartford keeper Erin Quinlan, the 2012 America East Goalkeeper of the Year, was called into action just once in the game. That save came in the tail end of the 49th minute as Alexandra Dezenzo provided the shot that Quinlan collected.

The title game appearance for the Hawks is the 10th in the Division I history of women's soccer at Hartford, who is in search of their eight America East Championship and first since 2006. The winner of next week's championship game will earn the America East's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament which starts November 9-10.

The match-up between Hartford and Stony Brook is the second in a two-week span as the Hawks traveled to Stony Brook for the regular season finale. Senior Shealagh Begley provided the game-winning tally in that contest with 121 seconds left in the second overtime as she curled a free kick from 35 yards out into the upper left corner.
