WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Stony Brook in the America East Championship on Sunday, closing out the 2012 season with an 11-5-3 overall record. Three Hawks, senior Amelia Pereira, junior Erin Quinlan and freshman Elise Galipo, were named to the All-Championship team as a result of the Hawks run to the title game.

The only offense in the contest came in the 13th minute when Seawolves leading scorer Larissa Nysch connected on her ninth goal of the year. Nysch, working off a pass from Kristen Baker, turned around a defender and fired a shot from the top of the box to the lower right corner.

The Hawks finished the contest with a 10-8 shot advantage, placing two of those shots on goal. The Hawks best look in the opening half came off the foot of Sidney Spremullo who beat her defender and sent a line drive from 17 yards out on an angle where Seawolves keeper Ashley Castanio collapsed on her first save of the night.

Castanio's second save came in the 77th minute when a shot from the top of the box off the boot of Galipo curved down and was deflected over the top of the cross bar by an outstretched Castanio. The ensuing corner kick provided the best scoring opportunity of contest for the Hawks as Pereira worked with classmate Julianne Oberholtzer off a corner kick and from the top corner of the box sent a shot across the front of the net that deflected off the post and crossbar but never crossed the end line.

That corner kick was one of eight total for the Hawks, while Stony Brook finished with two. Hawks keeper Erin Quinlan finished the game with two saves, neither shot really threatening to add to the Seawolves tally.

Hartford closes out the 2012 season with an 11-5-3 overall record after earning the #1 seed in the America East Championship. The Hawks were led on the year by Pereira who was named the America East Striker of the Year and Quinlan who was named the Goalkeeper of the Year for the second straight season. Pereira finished her senior campaign with an impressive 33 points on 13 goals and seven assists.

Quinlan allowed just 14 goals in 19 games in her second year with Hawks. She closes out the year with a .71 goals-against-average which leads the America East. Quinlan also collected 67 saves and a .827 save percentage.
