Aneil Bhalla earned a victory at the No. 2 singles position to pick up a point as the University of Hartford men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision on the road at Boston College Sunday.
Bhalla, a senior from Ontario, Canada, picked up his first singles victory of the Spring against the Eagles. Playing at the No. 2 spot, Bhalla jumped out to a one-set lead with a 6-3 victory in the first frame against Michael McGinnis. McGinnis came back to tie the match at one set apiece to force a super break. Bhalla took the super break and the match a 10-7 decision in the extra session.
Bhalla was the only Hawk to win a set in singles play. Junior
Marco Neves picked up a total of four games in a two-set loss to Billy Grokenberger, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 1 post.
In doubles action,
Alex Holdstein and
Bogdan Nedelcu mustered three games, but fell, 8-3, in the No. 3 slot.
The Hawks were playing their second match in as many days. The men return to the court Feb. 25 when they host Fordham in East Hartford, Conn.
